COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball Coldwater went 1-2 and finished fourth in the 32nd annual Coldwater Cardinal Invitational Pat Lowe Memorial Tournament Saturday.
The host Cardinals lost to Mattawan 9-0 in the first game but bounced back to defeat Dundee 10-6 before losing the third place game to Gull Lake 9-8.
Austin Spray pitched five innings of relief to get the win against Dundee. Alex Everitt earned the save. Bryce Barringer had two hits including a double and scored three runs. Kam Miller and Collin Torrey both had RBI doubles.
Barringer had a two run double against Gull Lake while Lucas Santure had two hits and an RBI, Torrey had an RBI double, Miller scored twice, Spray had an RBI single and Andrew Richar had two hits. Coldwater’s record is now 7-5.
Mattawan won the tournament championship with a 13-3 victory over Bedford.
Bronson defeated Union City 16-1 to win the Union City Rotarian Invitational at Alumni Field. Kameron Haviland drove in four runs for the Vikings. Brett Sikorski was the winning pitcher as the Vikings improved to 5-1.
Union City advanced to the finals with a 5-2 win over Marcellus thanks to a four run first inning. Blade Gordon struck out nine in five and two-thirds innings to get the win. Larson Kever had two hits for the Chargers while Garrett Korn drove in two runs.
Bronson advanced to the finals with a 10-0 win over Constantine.
—GIRLS SOFTBALL—
The Coldwater Lady Cardinals won their annual tournament on Saturday as they defeated Olivet in the finals 3-2. They advanced to the finals by defeating Hillsdale 16-1. Darlene Horn and Tyler Schied were the winning pitchers. Horn earned the save in the title game.
Jamie Wellet and Dru Mullin both had two hits against Hillsdale while Avery Milnes had a double and three RBI’s.
Horn had two doubles in the title game while Mullin and Samantha Rodesiler both had two singles.
The Cardinals are now 7-1 and will host Battle Creek Pennfield for a twinbill on Tuesday.
