COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A man in his mid 70’s was flown out by a Samaritan Medical Transport helicopter Wednesday morning after he sustained injuries to his hand and face following what was described as a accidental discharge of a homemade explosive device.
Michigan State Police say the man had put together the device in an attempt to scare geese off of his property.
It was initially dispatched as a self-inflicted gun shot wound but there was no gun involved.
Michigan State Police, the Branch County Sheriff’s Department and Life Care Ambulance were all called to a residence on Van Aken Drive on the west side of Morrison Lake just after 9:30 a.m.
The Coldwater Fire Department was called in to set up a landing zone in front of the home for the Samaritan Helicopter which landed about a half hour later.
Michigan State Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
