COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Post season awards for the Coldwater Cardinals girls softball team were announced during their team banquet Tuesday night. The squad earned Academic All-State honors for the 16th straight year and eight players were named to the Interstate 8 All-Academic team.
Darlene Horn, Jamie Wellet and Dru Mullin earned All-Interstate 8 and All-District honors. Earning all-conference honorable mentions were Izzy Foley, Cheyenne Akers and Tyler Scheid. Horn and Wellet also made the All-Regional.
In the team awards, Horn was named the Most Valuable Player and the Hitting Queen, Mullin won the Golden Glove while Foley was named the Outstanding Outfielder. Akers and Samantha Rodesiler were named the Most Improved Players. Scheid received the team player award while Zoe Nowicki was given the coaches award.
The Cardinals were 23-13 overall and finished second in the Interstate 8.
—MHSAA BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL QUARTERFINALS—
Homer was eliminated by Schoolcraft 6-1 in the MHSAA Division Three Baseball quarterfinals on Tuesday at Hope College.
Meanwhile, Mendon’s Cinderella run in the girls softball tournament ended on Tuesday as they were beaten by Kalamazoo Christian 4-0 in the MHSAA Division Four quarterfinals at Bailey Park in Battle Creek. Mendon entered the state tournament with a 14-15 record.
