QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Board of Education is scheduled to formally accept Superintendent Craig Artist’s resignation during their regular monthly meeting Monday night.
Artist is leaving after six years as Quincy uperintendent in light of the recent controversy involving a former district school teacher.
Artist submitted a letter of resignation for purposes of retirement effective immediately to the School Board last Monday which was the same day the Branch County Sheriff’s Department turned in their report on allegations Quincy school officials mishandled accusations of sexual misconduct against former teacher Jason Ferrell.
Attorney Robert Huber says Quincy Board of Education President Alan McClellan had provisionally accepted the resignation pending final Board action Monday night.
Artist and Quincy High School Principal David Spalding were placed on paid administrative leave in May by the board.
Branch County Undersheriff Keith Eichler has confirmed that Artist, Spalding and Human Resources Director Cheryl Globke were the subjects of the Sheriff’s Department investigation.
Ferrell is facing criminal sexual conduct charges in both Branch and Calhoun County which were filed in connection with alleged incidents involving one of his former students.
