COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker says in his report for Monday’s City Council meeting that the orange snow fencing has been removed at Waterworks Park after a number of environmental improvements took place over the last year.
Field stone has been installed to stabilize the riverbank and natural vegetation is now growing along the riverbanks.
While Waterworks Park can be used by the public once again, visitors are asked to not feed the ducks and geese. Vehicle access is still restricted so visitors are being asked to park at the pavilion.
The project was intended to reduce the damage being caused by humans and water fowl and improve the overall water quality of the river and nearby vegetation.
The work was needed since there was significant erosion along the skating pond that was compromising the structural integrity of the berm between the pond and the river.
The city got a $60,000 grant from the Great Lakes Commission to repair the berm and plant native seed along the Sauk River bank. The City’s match for the project was $12,000.
