COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Education voted 7-0 Monday night to put a $29 million bond resolution and 1.39 mill increase on the November 7th ballot.
The board passed a resolution last month approving the application for the preliminary qualification of bonds.
If voters in the Coldwater district say yes in November, Lakeland Elementary would be replaced by a new 4th and 5th grade building at the site of the current Little League diamonds on Western Avenue.
The funds would also be used for infrastructure needs in the district.
Coldwater school officials are hoping for a better outcome at the ballot box than what happened in 2015 when a pair of bond issues were defeated by wide margins. The first proposal that would have raised $46.5 million to build a new facility to replace Lakeland Elementary and pay for other building upgrades and update technology and safety lost 3,508 to 1,365.
The second bond request to generate $10 million, mostly for a 900 seat auditorium at Coldwater High School, lost by an even wider margin 3,732 to 1,156.
