COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The organizer for Civil War Days reported to the Coldwater City Council Monday night that this years event which was held over the Memorial Day holiday weekend in Heritage Park was another success.
Bill Smith said they had a large turnout for the 11th year of the event as the Battle of Cheat Mountain, which took place in September 1861, was reenacted. He said there were 124 re-enactors and 3,000 spectators.
Over 1,000 students were on hand for Education Day. Those students came from as far away as Constantine, Sturgis and the Howe Military School in Indiana.
But the 2018 event will not have rides from the Little River Railroad. Smith said the train that runs between Quincy and Coldwater will get torn down for repair work in December and won’t be ready until August 2018.
He said next years event will take place once again over the Memorial Day weekend May 25, 26 and 27, 2018.
