QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Due to the increased debt service on a pair of bonds, necessary upgrades to the system and an increase in costs, Quincy Village Manager Eric Zuzga will recommend to the Village Council on Tuesday night that utility rates be raised effective September 1st.
Additional increases are planned for 2019 and 2020.
Zuzga said in his report to the Council that he knows rate hikes are not popular but the increases are necessary to maintain and improve the system.
He added that since the utility funds mostly support themselves without General Fund Assistance, the only way to cover increased costs is to raise rates on the users of the system.
In other business scheduled for Tuesday, the Council is scheduled to take up a request from Zuzga to use the Transfer Station property for the development of a disc golf course. The use was in Quincy’s recreation plan, but Zuzga is asking for official approval so he can start raising funds for the project. He expects the total cost to be less than $35,000 which would include the fence around the transfer station.
