MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – In high school football , the Coldwater Cardinals jumped out to a 21-0 first half and went on to defeat the Marshall Red Hawks 28-7 in the Interstate 8 Conference opener for both teams Thursday night in Marshall.
Cole Targgart passed for two touchdowns and Logan Fee ran for the other two scores as the Cardinals improved to 2-0. Targgart was our McDonald’s Player of the Game as he was eight of 10 in the air for 154 yards.
Fee rushed for 156 yards as the Cardinals piled up a 358-141 edge in total yards. Damon Beckhusen and Ashton Duke both had six tackles on defense for the Cardinals.
Coldwater will host Pennfield next Friday night at Cardinal Field.
Union City 68, Bronson 12
Austin Mosher rushed for 217 yards and three touchdowns as Union City romped in their Big 8 opener 68-12 over the Bronson Vikings. Gavin Hooker had 106 yards on the ground and returned an interception for a TD while quarterback Josh Watson was 10 of 14 for 102 yards and a touchdown. Deacon Dey, Chad Bruce and Colton Johns all had eight tackles. Dey also forced two fumbles. Randy Thyng had a pair of TD passes for the Vikings.
Quincy 22, Jonesville 6
Unlike last years shootout, defense was the story Thursday night as Quincy won their Big 8 opener 22-6 at Jonesville. Bryce Ruhl had a 30 yard TD for the Orioles while Caleb McCavit and William Dunn hooked up on a 60 yard touchdown pass. Sebatian Gillette scored from a yard out for the other Orioles score. Ruhl finished with 107 yards to lead the Quincy rushing attack. Quincy had 254 yards of total offense as they improved to 2-0 while Jonesville was held to 191 yards.
