COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Max Larsen Elementary School has officially unveiled a brand-new playground structure aimed at boosting the physical, social, and emotional development of its students.
Coldwater Community Schools Superintendent Paul Flynn and Maintenance Director Howard Sharpley led the coordination and installation efforts for the new equipment.
School officials emphasized that the upgrade aligns with international research showing that enhanced play spaces directly encourage healthier, more active student lifestyles.
The upgrade builds upon the school’s rich history of outdoor play, as the campus sits directly adjacent to Coldwater’s popular Parkhurst Park, home to the historic, sprawling wooden “Kids’ Kingdom” complex.
Since transitioning in 2012 to exclusively serve the district’s Young 5s, kindergarteners, and first-grade students, ensuring high-quality, accessible recess space has been a major priority for the school.
With the addition of this modern structure, Max Larsen Elementary School continues its long-standing commitment to nurturing the whole child by balancing academic foundations with essential physical and social-emotional development.
