COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater Planning Commission Tuesday night approved a request from the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities for the reconstruction of a legally non-conforming parking lot at 168 Division Street. The CBPU has purchased the former Sauk River Trading Post building for the purpose of putting in office space for the Michigan South Central Power Agency and the utility’s technology center.
A temporary fence has led to strained feelings between the CBPU and D and M Auto, which is located next door.
CBPU Director Paul Beckhusen tried to explain to Planning Commission member Maureen Petzko at Tuesday’s meeting that the temporary fence was needed for safety while the building was being renovated.
But Petzko later told Beckhusen he was not acting like a good neighbor.
Members of the public told the Coldwater City Council last week that the CBPU has mistreated D and M in regards to a four foot easement. Beckhusen said he planned to meet with the business Wednesday.
