BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson Fire Department has announced they have been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency so that they can buy new equipment.
The grant was awarded for a $229,000 project. Five percent of the funds will be provided by the Bronson Area Fire Association with the remaining 95 percent will be paid with Department of Homeland Security funds.
The grant funding will be used to buy new self-contained breathing apparatus, a compressor system to fill the SCBA cylinders, and two rapid intervention team packs.
The RIT packs are used if a firefighter becomes trapped in a hazardous atmosphere should their breathing apparatus either malfunctions or runs out of air.
