COLDWATER,MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Fresh Market has officially reopened just hours after an early Tuesday morning fire caused an estimated $45,000 in damages to the international grocery store.
Dispatchers sent emergency crews to the storefront at 373 N. Willowbrook Drive at 4:51 a.m., where firefighters from the Coldwater Fire Department, with automatic aid from Quincy and Bronson, found heavy smoke and flames breaking through a front window.
Crews brought the blaze under control quickly and cleared the scene by 6:41 a.m..
Coldwater Fire Marshal Jackie Supianoski said that the fire was likely sparked by an electrical issue or overheated motors in a chest freezer near the front windows of the market.
No injuries were reported in the incident, which destroyed two chest freezers and shattered the front window.
Damage estimates included $20,000 to the property and $25,000 to the store’s contents.
Determined to serve their customers, the market’s owners coordinated a swift cleanup with ServPro and boarded up the broken windows to allow the store to resume operations.
The family-owned business, which first opened in December of 2024, has become well-known around the area for specializing in Middle Eastern, Caribbean, and other international foods.
While replacement windows are expected to arrive in about two weeks, the store back to being fully operational.
