COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council is scheduled Monday night to review an engineering report and discuss future options concerning the old U.S. 12 bridge on the west side of Coldwater, which was closed last month due to safety concerns.
The decision to close the nearly 100 year old bridge was made it underwent an inspection by the Lansing engineering firm of Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr and Huber.
Inspectors found the bridge to be an extreme hazard for pedestrian traffic and recommended taking it out of service immediately.
The Coldwater Department of Municipal Services then blocked off and restricted all pedestrian access to the structure.
Also on the agenda will be a request from Branch County Habitat for Humanity to buy a vacant lot at 124 Marshall so that they can build a new home there.
