CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB) – Officials with the St. Joseph County Grange Fair had to release some animals due to the extreme heat on Thursday. The forecast is calling for more unseasonably hot weather over the next days with temperatures almost 20 degrees above normal.
The Fair says they have released a few head of cattle, voluntarily by the owners, at the recommendation of veterinarians for the Fair and the State of Michigan Department of Agriculture Rural Development.
The heat led to the 4H’ers not displaying their animals in the auction on Thursday. Youngsters paraded through the ring with sometimes a picture of their animal.
Officials say prices received by the auction appear to be consistent with prior year’s sales even though the animal was not shown.
All terminal animals were being removed from the grounds as soon as the processor could accept them and transportation can be arranged.
Officials will continue to monitor all animals for their health and welfare.
