COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A pickup truck jackknifed in Coldwater Township on I-69 and the driver is behind bars today facing meth and possible heroin charges. Michigan State Police also say the 29-year old woman scuffled with officers before being taken into custody and was arraigned on 2 counts of resisting and obstructing.
According to State Police, Melinda Myers from Churubusco, Indiana was southbound on I-69 and told troopers that she lost control of her Ford F-250 and car hauler carrying a small auto and it swerved off and on the highway, spinning around on the pavement south of US 12. Coldwater City Police were first on the scene of the accident that was reported at 10:20 p.m.Wednesday night. State Police showed up soon after the suspect attempted to escape from two city police officers.
Troopers say the woman tossed her purse off the roadway before police reached the scene and inside the purse, they found zip lock bags that contained drugs that field tested positive for methamphetamine. In addition, a baggie allegedly in her possession contained suspected heroin, which will be examined at the State Police Crime Lab.
No injuries were reported. Bail for Myers was set at $75,000 cash or surety with a District Court probable cause hearing scheduled for September 28, 2017.
