OVID TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – An Algansee Township man was injured on Wednesday morning when two vehicles tried to pass an Amish buggy and crashed in Ovid Township.
Michigan State Police say a car and a pickup were both heading north on Wood Road shortly after 8:00am.
Troopers say the car driven by 68-year-old Jerry Owens was the first vehicle to pull into the left lane to get around the buggy and the tried to turn left onto Dubendorf Road when it was struck broadside by the pickup driven by 17-year-old Brandon Rifenburg of Coldwater which had also entered the left lane to pass the buggy.
Rifenburgh escaped injury while Owens was taken to the Community Health Center of Branch County where he was treated and released.
State Police were at the scene of the crash for about an hour. They cited both drivers and issued them tickets. The Lakeland Fire Department, the Branch County Sheriff’s Office and Lifecare Ambulance also responded to the accident.
