QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy Village Manager Eric Zuzga says the backers of a proposed linear path between Coldwater and Quincy are getting ready to write several grants and are asking for everyone’s assistance.
Zuzga says in a Facebook post that they need letters of support from citizens, businesses, non-profit groups, governmental entities and schools.
If you want to help out, send a letter indicating your support for the proposed Coldwater to Quincy trail with an extension to Jonesville being an even greater idea. The letter should explain why you want the trail and what good it would do.
Letters can be sent to Zuzga’s e-mail which is eric.zuzga@quincy-mi.org or you can snail mail a letter to the Quincy Village Office at 47 Cole Street, Quincy MI 49082. Letters can also be dropped off at the Village Hall. Zuzga hopes to get as many letters as possible by October 12, 2017.
Backers of the Coldwater to Quincy trail are hoping for a better outcome than what happened almost four years ago when a proposed trail linking Branch and St. Joseph Counties with a linear park connecting Coldwater, Bronson, Burr Oak and Sturgis along abandoned Indiana Northeastern rail line went down the drain when landowners next to the rail path bought the land parcels from Indiana Northeastern.
The deal to buy the track right of way blocked the efforts of the Friends of the Tamarack Rail Trail, Inc. and the Branch Area Bicycle Association for the recreational trail.
