COLDWATER, MI (WTVB), In a match we had last night on AM 1590 and FM 95.5, the Coldwater Cardinals defeated the Parma Western Panthers 3-0, with scores of 25-23, 25-17 and 25-20.
Jasmine Wellet led in kills with 11 and led in digs with 21, Drue Mullin had 20 digs, Tyler Scheid let in aces with 4 and had 8 kills. Jamie Wellet let in assists with 24 and had 17 digs, and Olivia Foley had 7 kills, 9 assists, and 9 digs. Ellory Farmer had 11 assists, and our McDonald’s Player of the Match, Malorie Rzepka, had 8 kills.
Coldwater is now 21-3-3 overall and 3-0 in the Interstate 8.
Parma won the two underclassman matches by scores of 2-0 (25-15, 25-10) in the JV match and 2-1 (25-18, 18-25, 15-13) in the freshman contest. Karly Gebbink had seven digs and seven aces while Amber Sunderland had seven aces and eight digs for Coldwater in the freshman match.
Bronson’s Kiana Mayer has been named as one of the 10 finalists for the Michigan Miss Volleyball award. The finalists were selected by the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association. The senior setter helped the Vikings repeat as Class C State Champs last season. Mayer is a member of the top-ranked team in Class C this year.

The Lady Cards recorded a lot of personal bests in the meet against the Trojans. Bringing home wins for the Cardinals was Jayda Kelly in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke, Kory Ulrich in the 500 Freestyle and Makinzie Groves in the 100 Breaststroke. Also, the relay team of Jayda Kelly, Kory Ulrich, Makinzie Groves, and Kenydee Otto finished first in the 200 and 400 Freestyle relays. The Cardinal Girls swim again next Tuesday at Jackson.

Harper Creek is now in second place in the Interstate 8 while Coldwater is third heading into the conference tourney next Friday.

The Cardinals will host Hastings in their last home match of the season on Tuesday. They will be at Gull Lake on Wednesday.
Middle School Football—
The Legg Middle School 7th and 8th grade Cardinals both lost at Battle Creek Lakeview on Wednesday. The 7th grade team fell 16-6 with the lone touchdown coming on a 50 yard pass from Chase Sunderland to Cameron Torres.
The 8th grade team took the Spartans to the last play of the game before falling 28-24. The Cardinals battled back from two score deficits twice before an incomplete pass in the end zone dashed their hopes as time expired. Owen Tom led the scoring with a pair of rushing touchdowns. Cole Barker added a two point conversion. Gage Rodgers scored on a 65 yard pass from Aiden Marsden, with Tom scoring the two point conversion.
Both teams play at home next Wednesday against Pennfield. Kickoff for the 7th grade game is at 4:30, while the 8th grade game will start around 6pm.
Basketball—
Another Branch County school district is looking for a boys basketball coach for the upcoming season. Besides Coldwater, the help wanted sign is up at Bronson High School. According to a posting on the districts web site, the position is not linked to another position in the district at this time. Interested candidates should send a letter of application and resume to Athletic Director Jean LaClair by October 10th.
