COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – GirMore volunteer coaches are needed for Girls on the Run of Branch County.
They had a record number of participants in 2016 and there could be more this year for the 10 week program.
A training session is held that provides the volunteer coaches and assistant coaches with the information and skills needed.
Each coach also receives detailed lesson plans as well as needed supplies for every lesson. Sessions are held twice weekly from March through May.
The program culminates with a Recognition Night and a 5k run. Volunteers do not need to be teachers or runners to be a coach.
If you want to help out, call or text Council Director Phyllis Gillette at (269) 420-6042 or email her at phyllis.gillette@girlsontherun.org.
Branch County’s Girls on the Run program is now 10 years old and has grown from 52 girls the first year to 188 participants in 2017.
The program is funded by donations.
