UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – A fire during the Union City Chamber of Commerce Farm To Fork event Saturday damaged a downtown restaurant. The alarm for the early Saturday afternoon blaze at Mel’s Diner at 200 North Broadway Street came in around 12:40 p.m.
According to Branch County Central Dispatch, no injuries were reported. The Union City Fire Department called for full assist mutual aid from the Burlington and Athens Fire Departments. The last of the firefighters remained on the job until about 2:00 p.m.
There was no immediate word on what caused the fire or on the extent of damage. Also on the scene were Union City Village Police, the Branch County Sheriff’s Department, and Life Care Ambulance.
