COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A 24 hour blackout that affected the entire city of Coldwater ended when power came back on across the city around 8:20 p.m. Sunday.
Poles for a high voltage transmission line that provides the primary power for the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities were brought down during a storm and heavy winds Saturday around 8:30 p.m. The entire city of Coldwater was plunged into darkness until the poles could be replaced and the lines reenergized by International Transmission Company, the owners and operators of the transmission line.
Even though they couldn’t work directly on the electric restoration, CBPU employees worked to maintain water and wastewater services until power was restored.
There were several thousand Consumers Energy customers in the southern part of Branch County still out when the power came back on in Coldwater. Consumers Energy hoped to have those areas restored by 10:00 p.m. Sunday.
