COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With regret, the Branch Intermediate School District Board of Trustees accepted Superintendent Joe Lopez’s request to retire at the end of the school year Wednesday.
Lopez has been the BISD Superintendent since 2011. He has spent 36 years in education. His retirement will be effective on July 31, 2018.
Now comes the task of finding his replacement. The board decided to have Lopez contact the Michigan Association of School Boards and the Michigan Leadership Institute. Both help school district conduct searches when a Superintendents job becomes open.
Lopez said outside of contacting the two companies, he will not take part in the process to hire a new superintendent.
The board agreed to meet with representatives from the two companies November 15, 2017.
It’s hope when a search firm is selected, the job will be posted sometime in December.
