LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County governmental officials were honored in Lansing Wednesday by the Michigan chapter of Energy Services Coalition following a 2016 energy savings project in which boilers, chillers, lighting and other energy related equipment were either upgraded or replaced.
In the $1.3 million project, the county upgraded to LED lighting. Boilers and chillers were also replaced in the courthouse.
In addition, a new energy management system and waterproofing were installed and water conservation measures were adopted.
The changes are expected to save the county over $87,000 annually. County Administrator Bud Norman says through the first eight months of 2017, the County had spent about 36 percent of its total courthouse energy expenditures made in 2016 and at this pace the county will have almost cut its energy expenditure bills in half for the year.
The Branch County project was one of the six recognized for reducing building energy waste through performance contracts.
