COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Federal authorities are keeping an eye out for counterfeit 100 dollar bills which have shown up in the cash registers of Coldwater businesses.
Secret Service agents from the Treasury Department are examining the bills.
Investigators are going through surveillance tapes in an attempt to identify the people passing the phony bills.
The crooks wash 10 dollar bills and then paste 100’s over the tens in order to pass the marker test.
Cashiers are being told to keep an eye out for anyone spending $100 bills.
