UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police Marshall Post Commander Lt. Jim Coleman told reporters Wednesday afternoon that the warrant being served at a Union Township residence which led to two State Police members being shot was related to the Duane Finney cold case investigation.
Finney’s murder in May 2009 was considered a cold case as of March 2017. Michigan State Police First Lt. Chuck Christiansen said two State Police detectives have been assisting the Branch County Sheriff’s Department since that time.
Finney’s body was found in his car shot to death, not far from where he lived.
His car came to rest in a field about 500 feet from a rental storage unit parking lot near the Skate Ranch, just south of the Coldwater city limits.
