COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After getting a cold shoulder from the City of Coldwater Planning Commission last September, a proposed apartment complex in Milnes Plaza is schedule to come back up for consideration next month now that the City Council has adopted an addition to the city zoning ordinance which would allow multi family residential uses within the C-2 Central Business District.
City Manager Keith Baker told the Coldwater Downtown Development Authority board Wednesday that the site plan from Spire Development of Columbus, Ohio for “The Lofts at Milnes Plaza” is still the same but now there are 50 units instead of the previous amount of 41.
The proposal calls for 32 two bedroom units, 11 one bedroom units and only seven three bedroom units.
The previous project from Spire Development had 41 apartment units. Seven of the units would be one bedroom apartments while the other 34 would have three bedrooms. The former Taylor’s Stationers building would not be included in the project.
A site plan review by the Planning Commission has been scheduled for February 19, 2018. If that hurdle is cleared, the City Council February 26 will consider a request for payment in lieu of tax. A purchase agreement for the parking lot and the cross parking and management agreement for the parking lot is scheduled to be taken up by the Council in March.
The developers plan to submit an application for financing to the Michigan State Housing Development Authority by April 2, 2018. They will find out in 60 to 90 days if the application is approved.
