BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – In girls high school softball, Coldwater extended its winning streak to 13 straight with a doubleheader sweep at Pennfield by scores of 10-0 and 13-1.
Game one winning pitcher Darlene Horn struck out nine. Avery Milnes led the Cardinal offense with three hits. Horn was also the winning pitcher in the second game. Tyler Scheid and Samantha Rodesiler both had two hits.
Coldwater is now 21-11 overall. They finished tied with Parma Western for second place in the Interstate 8 with a 9-3 league record.
Union City dropped both ends of a doubleheader by scores of 5-3 and 6-2. Quinn Adams doubled in the first game for the Chargers. Autumn Carpenter had two hits and two RBI’s in game two.
In a baseball doubleheader that was finally played after two postponments, Coldwater was swept by Battle Creek Pennfield 8-0 and 3-2. It was the Cardinals final Interstate 8 games of the season.
Austin Santure had two of the four Coldwater hits in the opener. Coldwater fell behind 2-0 in the nightcap but tied the game with single runs in the sixth and seventh. Pennfield got the walk off win with a run in the last of the seventh. Zach Rigot had two hits for Coldwater while Porter Skidmore struck out 10 Panthers.
Brett Sikorski and Brendan Bell each drove in three runs as Bronson defeated Centreville 12-9. Bell and Ethan Cossairt both had three hits. Kameron Haviland was the winning pitcher as the Vikings improved to 26-4.
Union City has been declared the winner of the second game of their double header with Concord on Tuesday. The Chargers were leading 4-3 when play was suspended in the seventh inning because of darkness. The game was originally scheduled to be resumed on Friday but Concord was unable to finish the contest due to the Memorial Day holiday. The Chargers finished 8-6 in the Big 8 and are 20-9 overall. they rallied to score two runs to defeat Concord.
