ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A Kendallville, Indiana man has been formally charged with ten criminal counts following a seven hour standoff last Thursday with police at the Travelers Inn west of Fremont.
An initial hearing for 36-year-old Joshua A. Kelley was held Friday. Kelley has been charged with two counts of attempted murder after he allegedly fired at police officers twice. The first outburst of gunfire took place as Fremont Police were conducting a welfare check on him. The second took place about six hours later when negotiations broke down.
Kelley surrendered after police fired tear gas into his room at the motel.
Kelley is also facing three counts of using a firearm in the commission of an offense. Other charges filed by Steuben County Prosecutors were manufacturing methamphetamine, intimidation where the defendant draws or using a deadly weapon, pointing a firearm and two counts of carrying a handgun without a license.
With a criminal record that dates back to 2000, Kelley is also facing three habitual offender sentencing enhancements.
Bond was set at $250,000 during Friday’s hearing. A Steuben County Superior Court jury trial was scheduled for December 20, with a pre-trial conference September 24, 2018.
