ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – In a story that has generated national media attention, enough money has been raised in the last week through the sale of bracelets which will allow a teenager from Angola, Indiana to get the cancer treatment she needs to stay alive.
14-year-old Olivia Stoy has been battling cancer for the last two years.
WANE-TV in Fort Wayne reports Stoy had to raise $350,000 for a bone marrow transplant. She was fighting the clock since the operation was needed within the next month or else it was unlikely she would survive her disease.
Stoy and Emily Bryan of Fort Wayne designed a Lava Liv bracelet which sold for $20 apiece. Thanks to the internet, people from all over the country bought the braclets by the thousands.
The bracelet purchases combined with a Go Fund Me campaign allowed Stoy to raise enough money in just one week for her operation.
Bryan presented Stoy and her family with a check for $110,000 Sunday.
