MONTPELIER, OH (WTVB) – An issue that would affect the way part of Branch County gets water is being played out in some rather stormy and contentious meetings in Williams County, Ohio.
The Toledo Blade reports the Village Council in Montpelier, Ohio voted in favor of a resolution that expresses concern about a plan by Artesian of Pioneer to sell water from the Michindoh Aquifer to several Toledo area suburbs and other entities in northwest Ohio. Those communities are looking at using the aquifer instead of being part of a regional water authority that is being put together by the City of Toledo.
The Michindoh Aquifer provides water to nine counties in three states including southeastern Branch County, most of Hillsdale County and western Lenawee County.
The Blade reports nearly 250 persons jammed their way into Monday’s meeting. Large and angry crowds have turned out for other meetings as they continue to push back against the plan mainly over environmental concerns.
