COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With the Branch Intermediate School District taking over Adult Education in Coldwater this fall, the BISD Board of Education approved a request from Superintendent Kristine Jenkins Wednesday to accept Section 107 grant money totaling $100,000 from the State of Michigan to begin operations of the Branch County Adult Education program. She indicated the BISD could get additional funds.
Jenkins said the initial allocation will not be enough to offer Adult Ed at the Branch County Jail and at Mi!Works but the BISD will apply for additional money if it becomes available.
The board also approved seven new part-time evening positions in the Adult Ed program. Those positions are for a director, assistant director, three instructors, an academic assessment specialist and a clerk. Two of the instructors will teach English as a Second Language and Math.
The BISD was approached by officials from Coldwater Community Schools last year about taking over adult education for the community as Coldwater’s grant funding was coming to an end after the 2018-2019 school year.
Office space and classes will still be at Coldwater High School. Classes will be held three days a week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
