UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The final touches on Union City’s new water tower have begun.
The Village says on its Facebook page that a coat of primer now covers nearly the whole structure. Another coat needs to be applied and the interior has to be primed before the outside can be painted.
The new 150,000 gallon water tower at the corner of Dirks Drive and Goodwin Drive is replacing the old 75,000 gallon tank that was put up in 1923.
The old tank is scheduled to come down next year.
Union City Village Manager Chris Mathis says the new tower will satisfy the village’s growing water needs.
Part of the funding for the water tower project came from the U.S.D.A.’s Rural Development program.
