COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A dry spell has taken hold in the last couple of weeks following one of the wettest springs on record.
Since 1.18 inches of rain fell on June 20, the Michigan State University Extension weather gauge at the Bloom Dairy Farm west of Coldwater has measured only .51 inch of rain, with .31 inch being measured Monday, June 24.
A late afternoon thundershower on the Fourth of July produced .01 inch of rain. It was only the second day out of the last nine that rain had been measured at that location.
The weather station also recorded a high temperature of 91 degrees for the third time this week on Independence Day. The same high was recorded on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday’s high was 89 degrees.
The high hit 89 degrees on the Fourth of July at the Branch County Memorial Airport. The airport has its first 90 degree day of the summer Tuesday.
Thursday’s late afternoon shower dropped the temperature from 89 degrees at 4:30 p.m. to 77 degrees an hour later.
