COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The AGAPE Ministry in Coldwater has expressed an interest to the Coldwater Community School District about taking over the abandoned Fremont Street school building.
Pastor Joshua Englehart from AGAPE Ministries told the Coldwater Community Schools Board of Education Monday night that he graduated from the Franklin Learning Center back in 2000. He said their ministry has been renting property in the area for the past three years.
He envisions the building being used to help youngsters and those who are battling substance abuse.
The empty building has fallen into disrepair in recent years with reports of vandalism, drug use and some homeless people using it as a shelter. Some nearby residents want it demolished but the school district has no current plans to tear it down as it’s estimated it would cost about $250,000 for the demolition.
