COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The majority of trees in the city of Coldwater? Maple. That finding came in the results of a tree inventory study that was conducted this spring in Coldwater was presented to the Coldwater City Council Monday night.
City Planner Dean Walrack said the study was made possible by a state grant.
Area Manager Lee Mueller from the Davey Resource Group, which conducted the study, said during his power point presentation over 5,400 trees and 41 stumps were inventoried.
The inventory found 96 different species with maple trees making up 43 percent of the tree population in Coldwater.
He said 72 percent of the trees in the city were in good condition with 24 percent in fair condition, three percent were in poor condition and one percent of the trees were dead.
The recommendations to the city included limiting the amount of maple trees as new trees are planted in order to encourage species distribution and updating inventories every seven years.
