COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An Athens woman plead guilty Monday in Branch County Circuit Court to First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct involving a two-year-old girl she was babysitting.
20-year-old Jayme Lynn LaPoint remains in the Branch County Jail, pending her sentencing September 23, 2019. Three other charges of using a cell phone to send video of the sex acts to her husband were dismissed in exchange for her plea to the CSC charge.
LaPoint is also one of the four defendants accused by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office of being involved in a plot to kidnap, rape and kill a randomly selected child. That case in Branch County Circuit Court has now been postponed until July 29, 2019.
The others involved are Matthew Toole of Battle Creek, David Lee Bailey of Coldwater, and Talia Renee Furman of Springfield. They were all charged by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office in September 2018 following a Michigan State Police investigation.
