COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man received two one-year jail terms after entering no contest pleas to a pair of charges following a violent domestic dispute with a female acquaintance in late March 2019.
48-year-old Christpher Covey was sentenced Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after pleading no contest to charges of assault with a weapon and attempted assault less than murder or strangulation.
Five other charges are being dropped by prosecutors in exchange for his pleas including counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, unlawful imprisonment and aggravated domestic violence.
Covey was arrested followed a Coldwater Police Department investigation. He was given credit for 106 days already served, but was also order to undergo a mental health evaluation.
