COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Burlington man was arraigned in Branch County District Court Monday on 10 felony charges in connection with a weekend traffic chase incident.
Michigan State Police say they are continuing to investigate the late Sunday afternoon pursuit that resulted in the charges being brought against 36-year old Joseph Copas. The chase started in Calhoun County and ended in Branch County’s Butler Township.
The felony counts include a pair of motor vehicle thefts as well as robbery and assault charges.
Troopers said they were checking out leads on Copas regarding multiple felony warrants and that he had been eluding police for more two weeks when they received a tip which eventually prompted the initiation of Sunday’s pursuit.
A corrections officer at the Branch County jail said Copas will be held without bond pending his next court appearance.
No further information on the matter has yet been released by Michigan State Police.
