QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Village Council adopted an ordinance to limit the use of fireworks within the village limits during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday night.
The ordinance prohibits the use of consumer-grade fireworks except on New Year’s Eve; the Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Memorial Day; June 29 through July 4, and July 5 if it falls on a Friday or Saturday; and the Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Labor Day. On those allowed days, fireworks may be used from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 p.m.; the exception is New Year’s Eve, where they can be used until 1:00 a.m.on January 1.
Fines will range from $100 for the first offense, $250 for the second offense within a year, and $500 for the third and all subsequent offenses.
Quincy’s ordinance is identical to the fireworks ordinance approved by the Coldwater City Council in June.
Amendments to the Michigan Fireworks Safety Act of 2012 that were adopted during the lame duck session of the state legislature last December gave municipalities more leeway to put additional restrictions on the use of consumer fireworks.
