COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – No injuries were reported in a Friday afternoon fire at the Schmitz Foam factory at 188 Treat Ave. on Coldwater’s southwest side.
Coldwater firefighters were called to the scene at 3:45 p.m. and saw smoke coming from the building.
Damage was limited to an industrial oven used in the making of foam products, with the cause determined to be a build-up of foam in the oven.
The fire was under control within 15 minutes, and the scene was cleared by 5:20 p.m. A damage estimate is unknown at this time.
Mutual aid was provided by the Bronson, Lakeland, and Quincy Fire Department, whose crews rotated in and out of the scene in light of the excessive heat of the day.
Additional assistance was provided by LifeCare Ambulance and Coldwater Police.
