COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A South Bend, Indiana woman was formally arraigned on five counts Monday in Branch County District Court following a weekend confrontation with the Branch County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police.
24-year-old Natasha Martinez was booked into the Branch County Jail Saturday night. Authorities were earlier in the day called to a location on Sprague Road in Coldwater Township on a report of an unwanted suspect.
Court documents indicate her ex-boyfriend and another man had previously ordered her not to be on the property.
Martinez was taken into custody after she allegedly tried to run away from a State Trooper. Court documents also say she resisted while being placed under arrest. During the struggle, she allegedly bit a trooper on his arm and tried to grab a taser and a weapon.
Martinez has been charged with resisting, obstructing or assaulting an officer causing injury. She is also facing two other counts for resisting an officer, attempted disarming of a police officer and trespassing.
Bond has been set at $35,000. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for August 1 with a preliminary examination scheduled for August 6, 2019.
