COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A recommendation to the Branch County Board of Commissioners from the E-911 Board on a vendor for a new emergency radio system has been pushed back.
Coldwater Fire Chief Dave Schmaltz told commissioners during their work session on Tuesday that questions and concerns were raised about proposals submitted by two vendors when the 911 Board Technical Committee met this week.
That led their consultants from Florida-based ADC Telecom to suggest a delay on a recommendation for no more than three months.
Schmaltz said questions included tornado sirens and equipment charges.
Schmaltz, who is serving as the chair of the Technical Committee, said the next step in the process would be funding. He says a grant writer is confident they will be able get funding that will pay for a majority of the project.
Efforts have been made over the last couple of years by emergency officials in the county to replace what is felt to be an antiquated VHF radio system along with its equipment with a 700 or 800 megahertz system.
