COLDWATER TOWNSHIP – (WTVB) – A mother and her daughter were injured Wednesday morning when a mini van and a pickup truck collided at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Newton Road.
The accident was reported at about 5:15 a.m..
Michigan State Police report a 46-year-old Coldwater woman who was driving the mini van stopped at the stop sign and then proceeded into the intersection heading to the east. Her vehicle was then T-boned by a pickup truck driven by a 36-year-old man from Tekonsha.
Both drivers side doors were ripped off the vehicle on impact.
After the impact, both vehicles went off the road and into a field.
A third vehicle slid off the road but was not involved in the original accident.
Both the woman and her 22-year-old daughter from Coldwater were taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital with what were described as serious injuries. The female driver was later transferred to a Kalamazoo Hospital. The passenger suffered a broken arm. The pickup driver was not injured.
A State Police trooper says both drivers were going to work at the time of the crash.
Coldwater firefighters, Coldwater Police, Life Care Ambulance and the Branch County Road Commission were all dispatched to the accident scene which tied up traffic in the area.
The crash is still under investigation.
