QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Officials with the Quincy Fire Department say there has been a dramatic increase in kitchen fires around Branch County recently.
Quincy firefighters have responded to three kitchen fires in the last two weeks alone. All three fires happened to occur in apartment buildings or multifamily dwellings.
Luckily, none of the fires were serious and there were no injuries.
Fire officials are offering several safety tips in light of the fires.
They say you should never be afraid to call 911 for help, you will not be charged for the service.
Even if you think the fire is out, firefighters will ensure there is no extension and will help ventilate the building.
You should also have a working fire extinguisher accessible, develop and practice an emergency evacuation plan with your family and check your smoke detectors regularly.
