COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A new animal control contract with Hillsdale County is among the final goals of 2026 that were presented to Branch County Commissioners by County Administrator Frank Walsh during their work session on Thursday.
Branch and Hillsdale County officials have been trying to work out a new Animal Control Contract for over a year as the current 10-year deal expires at the end of the year. Walsh has been trying to bridge what he felt was a funding gap for Branch County.
He said a proposed deal will be before the Hillsdale County Commissioners next Tuesday and if all goes well in front of Branch County Commissioners on November 19.
While he did give specific details, Walsh said with the modified contract, Branch County will collect significantly more money than the did with the previous agreement
Other items on the end-of-the-year goal list included achieving new leases with the county’s tenants at 200 Orleans, reviewing the current building department fees, reviewing the possibility of enhancing accounting software, preparing end-of-the-year budget projections and presenting the Board of Commissioners with the 2027 Cost Allocation Plan.
