HASTINGS, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals won both halves of their varsity basketball twinbill at Hastings as the second half of their league schedule began.
The Cardinal boys posted a 20-point win over the Saxons, 76-56. Coldwater had a 12-11 lead after the first quarter, but used a 22-8 second quarter to put some space between themselves and their hosts. Dylan Targgart led all scorers with 20 points. Our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Ethan Crabtree contributed 15 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals. Brandon Downs had 12 points, 5 assists, and 6 steals as Coldwater improved to 7-5 overall; their 6-2 record in the Interstate 8 keeps them tied with Pennfield and Parma Western atop the league standings.

Coldwater won the girls game against the Saxons 56-41 despite Macy Winegar leading all scorers with 25 points for the host team. Carlee Crabtree had a team-high 24 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals for the Cardinals, while Taylor Wilber, our McDonald’s Player of the Game, had 9 points and younger sister Mallory Wilber had 8 points, 9 boards, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Coldwater improves to 6-7 overall, 5-3 in the Interstate 8.
