JONESVILLE, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles won a share of the boys Big 8 Conference championship Tuesday night as they broke open a tight game in the second half and went on to win at Jonesville 57-38. It’s the fourth straight season the Orioles have won or shared the boys basketball Big 8 title.
They had to settle for a share this season as Reading defeated Homer on Tuesday night 63-59. Both Quincy and Reading finished 12-2 in the Big 8. The Orioles are 16-3 overall.
Quincy only led 19-16 at the half but they finally got some breathing room in the third quarter when they outscored the Comets 19-9 to take a 38-25 lead. A 19-13 fourth quarter for Quincy was icing on the cake.
Kyler Economou led the Orioles with 28 points while Kyle Rodesiler had nine points, Will Dunn had eight rebounds and Matthew Hagaman dished out six assists. Quincy outshot Jonesville 54 to 34 percent and owned a 30-20 edge in rebounding. The Orioles were also six of 12 on three point shots.
The Bronson Vikings scored the first 13 points of the game and went on to defeat the Union City Chargers 56-35 on Tuesday night in the Big 8 Conference regular season finale.
After the Vikings initial outburst, the Chargers ran off nine straight points. But Bronson outscored the Chargers for the rest of the half 15-5 to take a 28-14 halftime lead.
Bronson continued to pull away in the second half and got the lead to as high as 26 points against a young Chargers team that was playing their second game in two nights.
Bronson’s Reagan Mayer scored a game-high 17 points while Aden Hathaway had 13 points and Graham Eley scored nine points.
Kyle Johnson led Union City with 13 points while Terrance Morgan had seven points.
