RICHLAND, MI. – (WTVB) – Battle Creek Lakeview’s Brazyll Watkins scored 42 points which set a Lakeview girls basketball program single game scoring record as the Spartans eliminated the Coldwater Cardinals 66-50 on Wednesday night in the Division One district semifinals at Gull Lake.
Coldwater led 24-23 after the first quarter and only trailed 34=31 at halftime.
But the top seeded Spartans opened up some distance in the third quarter as they outscored the Cardinals 15-3 to take a 49-34 lead into the final eight minutes and the Cardinals were unable to recover.
Carlee Crabtree finished her outstanding career as the Coldwater girls basketball program’s all time leading scorer. She had 22 points in what turned out to be her final game for CHS. She also had seven rebounds. Abby Herman had nine points while Mia Rzepka had seven points and six rebounds.
The Cardinals finished the season at 8-13. Lakeview moves on to face Battle Creek Central for the district title on Friday night. The Bearcats advanced with a 71-29 win over Sturgis.
