ANGOLA, IND. – (WTVB) – There will be no spring Commencement ceremony at Trine University due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
University officials announced the cancellation of the May 2nd ceremony on Wednesday “due to the continually evolving nature of the COVID-19 outbreak and following recent direction from state and local authorities.”
University President Doctor Earl D. Brooks II said in an email to graduating seniors and parents that “this is yet another decision we did not want to make, but it was out of our hands”.
He went on to say, “we know how much you and your family were looking forward to celebrating your tremendous accomplishments. And so were we. For most of us, it is the highlight of the year.”
Brooks said the decision to cancel was made in order to ensure the health and safety of students, families, and the Trine University community.
Plans are in the works to honor Trine’s Class of 2020. Those plans include a celebration for the class during Homecoming in October. Members of the Class of 2020 also will be invited to participate in an expanded fall graduation ceremony in December. Details will be announced sometime in the future.
